First hike of the year. McConnell Ridge in K Country. Ascent: ice and snow. Descent: deep snow and slush. Trekking poles are my new best friends. Crampons… where were you today? B-Good and I scoped out the trail for our Outdoor Ed. classes. 6.5 hours of slipping, sliding, and poling is what I’ll blame for the rigor mortis setting into my joints right now. (That and I’m fit as a Twinkie right now).

The mountains remind me that I’m tiny. The compass always feels like it’s spinning but out there it’s one foot in front of the next. Beautiful, exhausting simplicity. I can’t find that peace anywhere else.
